Numbers matter. So does the judgment behind them.

I am a Professor of Finance at Al-Akhawayn University and a researcher interested in valuation, markets, investor behavior, governance, and the difficult space between a model and the person using it.

Teaching

Finance should be rigorous without becoming bloodless.

I want students to understand the model, but also its assumptions, its limits, and what changes when a real person has to make the decision. That means moving comfortably between theory, evidence, market practice, and judgment.

01

Investments & Portfolio Management

Asset pricing, portfolio construction, security analysis, risk, fixed income, derivatives, and the practical discipline of making investment choices under uncertainty.

02

Valuation & Corporate Finance

How firms are valued, how expectations enter the price of a business, and how financial decisions shape the future investors believe they are buying.

03

Behavior & Decision-Making

The human layer of finance: judgment, narratives, confidence, incentives, attention, and the behavioral forces that complicate otherwise elegant models.

Research

Questions I keep returning to.

My current research sits at the intersection of valuation, investor behavior, governance, narratives, and financial institutions. The common thread is an interest in how expectations become decisions — and how those decisions acquire authority.

01
Corporate valuation / governance

The Present Value of the Not-Yet

How organizations give authority to imagined corporate futures, and how expectations about what has not happened yet begin to shape present decisions.

02
Islamic finance / banking

Why Profit-and-Loss Sharing Remains Marginal

Information frictions, monitoring costs, and the economic conditions that make theoretically attractive risk-sharing arrangements difficult to sustain in practice.

03
Investor trust / corporate narratives

Beyond the Numbers

How corporate narratives influence investor trust when financial communication is increasingly filtered, generated, and interpreted through AI-enabled systems.

04
Behavioral finance / trading

Trait-Activated Trading

A behavioral model of how trader characteristics become activated by market conditions, changing the probability that knowledge translates into disciplined execution.

A working principle

A model can be correct and still be used badly.

Academic background

Teaching. Research. Supervision.

I work across undergraduate, graduate, and applied finance contexts, with particular interest in investment analysis, portfolio management, valuation, behavioral finance, and research that connects formal models to observed decision-making.

This page is a record of the academic side of my work: teaching, research, supervision, and the questions I continue to pursue.
